Finding Your Blogging Niche Idea
Before starting a new blog, first decide on the topic, or niche. This is vitally important if you plan on blogging for profit, or monetizing your blog. Here we will look at the areas a blogger should consider when choosing a subject for a new blog. This information will help not only the first time blogger, but experienced bloggers who want to start a new niche blog.
A good idea for the first time blogger is to select a niche idea that you are knowledgeable and interested in. Nothing dampens the spirit faster than having to force yourself to write blog posts about something that you struggle to come up with ideas for or that you are bored with. Equally important, however, is to carefully research the amount of competition and reader interest your blog niche currently has. How many other blogs are there in your chosen niche? How many people are interested in your topic? If there are too many people blogging about cat beds and very few folks searching for blogs about cat beds, then find another niche.
What are you interested in?
Bloggers who are passionate about a subject have an easier time creating subjects to write about. Their readers appreciate the care that the writer takes in sharing their particular topic, and will tell others in the same interest group. This makes for a successful blog. Whatever your interests, whether they are in huge niches or a very small group of the population, write about what you enjoy.
How much competition does your niche have?
Once you have some ideas for what to blog about, you need to do research to determine the competition you will be up against. You can start out doing an online search on the niche. This will give you an idea of how saturated the niche topic already is and whether it is a good idea to use that niche. You should also check out the quality of the current niche blogs on the topic. Based on that information, would you have a good chance making it in that niche?
What is the purpose of your blog?
Blogs are started for a number of reasons. Folks start personal blogs to share information about their lives, while others blog to support a non-profit cause they are involved in. If you want to make money blogging you will need to learn a lot about marketing a blog etc. Traffic generation is an area that you should consider before deciding on a niche. How hard will it be to get enough traffic to your blog? What methods will you need to use to get lots of people to visit? Knowing your objective in starting a blog is an important step, so plan ahead before you start.
